Media invitation to the third Annual Nelson Mandela Children’s Parliament to mark Nelson Mandela’s 95th birthday

The Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund, in partnership with the Department of Women, Children and People with Disabilities, marks the former President and Children’s Fund founder’s 95th birthday, with the Annual Nelson Mandela Children’s Parliament, to promote accountability for children’s wellbeing and keep their issues on top of government and civil society agenda.

The theme for this year’s Children’s Parliament is “Working Together to Protect Our Children” and in keeping with the Fund’s mission of “Giving Voice and Dignity to the African Child”. The Children’s Parliament ranks as standing drive item on the agenda of engendering our Founder’s wish to see children carving their crucial role in making South Africa’s future democracy not only vibrant and representative but also worth upholding and defending.

More than 60 children from all nine provinces will participate in this year’s Nelson Mandela Children’s Parliament, where they will voice their opinions and wishes about the country’s future, and also salute the former President for placing children on South Africa’s national development agenda.

This year’s Children’s Parliament will be hosted by the Eastern Cape Provincial Government, as follows:

Date: Friday, 5 July 2013
Time: 8h00
Venue: Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature, Bisho

The Nelson Mandela Children’s Parliament is scheduled to start at 8h00 at the Eastern Provincial Legislature with guests expected to be seated by 9h00.
