MEC Mme Makhurupetje Makoma of Cooperative,Human Settlement and Traditional Affairs (CoGHSTA), MEC Jery Ndou of Public Works, Roads & Infrastructure, and MEC Mapula Mokaba- Phukwana of Transport, Safety and Liaison will tomorrow April the 10th, 2015 presented their departmental budget speeches at the Legislature starting from 10h00. Key highlights for the presentations are as follows:
CoGHSTA:
- Planned to reduce housing backlog by 8565 units in addition to the 2014/15 target of 10500 housing units
- Increased access to basic water from 83% in 2014 to 90% by 2020
- Increased access to electricity from 83% in 2014 to 90% by 2020; and
- Increased access to sanitation from 43% in 2014 to 50% by 2020
- Planned to transfer 3,700 housing units to beneficiaries through Enhanced Discount Scheme and Registration and Endorsement Programme.
Public Works, Roads & Infrastructure:
- Completion of all “Bermuda Roads
- Creation of jobs through Expanded Public Works Programme
- Building social infrastructure.
Transport, Safety, Security & Liaison will focus amongst others on:
- Road Traffic and Safety issues with a special emphasis on Commuter safety and visible policing
- Traffic Regulations enforcing child passenger safety.
- Public Transport especially the further formalisation of the small operators and Taxi industry and expansion of Bus operations to all nodes of the province
- The MEC will also report progress on inter-modal facility and BRT systems in the province.
Safety, Security and Liaison (MEC will focus on 8 points plan to reduce crime in the Province:
- Capacitation of Community Police Forum (CPF) and CFF to carry out their duties effectively.
- Strengthen law enforcement to combat illicit drugs and illegal trade of liquor as well as regulations of informal businesses.
- Prioritisation of Community involving the abuse of women, children and people with disabilities.
