Minister Tertuis Simmers to hand over keys at the Anchorage social housing project
Tomorrow, 9 March 2021, Western Cape Minister of Human Settlements, Tertuis Simmers will attend the project launch of the Anchorage Social Housing Project in Glenhaven, Bellville. This event will see Minister Simmers handing over keys to new tenants, while also interacting with those that have already moved into the completed units in this development.
Construction of the Anchorage Social Housing Project, which has a budget of R 200 million, commenced in October 2018 and has a total of 512 Social Housing Units. The first phase of social housing consists of 416 apartments arranged in 4-storey walk-ups in five buildings. To date, 209 of the completed 416 units as part of the first Phase are occupied. The second phase consists of a single four-storey building of 96 units.
Minister Simmers said: “Ensuring that affordable housing opportunities are created for our residents is a priority for the Western Cape Government. This is more important now, particularly since the covid pandemic had an adverse impact on our people’s livelihoods and the economy in general.
These homes will undoubtedly make a significant difference in the lives of our people and I’m looking forward to handing over the keys to our residents that will be moving in.”
For media present, there will be an opportunity for interviews and photographs.
All media are invited to attend.
