The MEC for Rural Development and Agrarian Reform Zoleka Capa cordially members of the media the official launch of the Ncera Macadamia Farming scheduled to take place at Ncera Village on Thursday, 23 May.
The department has supported the Community Private Partnership with more than R40 million since 2005 through Vulindlela Investment Trust (VIT), which is owned by all nine Ncera villages and is intended to benefit all legitimate Ncera residents as approved by the Community and the local Chieftainess.
VIT embarked on a partnership with Government and Private sector to establish a 300ha Macadamia Project in the Ncera area and to date 110ha has been planted with 50ha ready to be harvested in 2013.
The Company, Ncera Macadamia Farming Pty Ltd, is owned fifty one percent (51%) by Vulindlela Investment Trust and forty nine percent (49%) by Private Sector. The deal is such that Government provided funds on behalf of the Community to build orchard infrastructure on their land which they own.
The overall goal is to establish the first community owned macadamia project in the Eastern Cape at Ncera utilising the Ncera land. The intention is to develop the whole macadamia value chain and create long term sustainable economic opportunities and Jobs in Ncera and surrounding areas.
Among the achievement of the projects is the 109 jobs created, training and skills development, further development of sustainable black farmers and the commitment of future company dividends into social upliftment projects.
