MEC Robin Carlisle to launch new average speed over distance camera enforcement network

Transport and Public Works MEC, Robin Carlisle, will be launching the new Average Speed Over Distance (ASOD) camera network system, being implemented on the 31.7km Three Sisters – Beaufort West to Laingsburg stretch of road in the province.

The Average Speed Over Distance project (ASOD) calculates the average speed of a vehicle from the time it passes the first camera until it passes the second camera.

The project was initially implemented in October 2011 on a 71.6km stretch of road (the longest camera network of its kind in the world) between Beaufort West and Aberdeen (R61). Its implementation has previously seen a drop in the number of drivers arrested for doing excessively high speeds.

All media are invited and welcome to attend. There will be opportunity for interviews and photographs.

Date: Wednesday, 5 December 2012
Time: 09h30 till 11h30
Venue: Traffic Management Centre Corner Smart & Richmond Street, Goodwood (Map is attached)

Please indicate if you will be attending for security purposes and to ensure that gaining access into the building is without delay.
