DRDAR MEC to engage with stakeholders to enhance the sector
Eastern Cape Department of Rural Development and Agrarian Reform (DRDAR) MEC Nonkqubela Pieters will host a round table engagement session with different sector stakeholders to chart a collaborative approach which will result in revitalisation of the agriculture and Agro- processing sector in the province.
The gathering aims to take stock of the agricultural assets of the province and how this can be used to leverage investments for the sector and to increase agricultural output. The department will present the status of the sector, highlighting the contribution of the sector to the economy, economic possibilities, development gaps, departmental assistance, other available assistance from sector departments, as well including government entities and other development partners.
The Department plans to use the outcome of the MEC's stakeholder engagement as the basis for engagement with potential investors in the new year with specific focus on the commodities outlined in the Agriculture and Argo-processing Masterplan, in pursuit of the goals of the Provincial Development Plan 2030.
The engagement session will be attended by emerging farmers, commercial farmers, sector specialists, government departments, entities and development partners.
