Health MEC Nkomo-Ralehoko together with Joburg Mayor Cllr Morero to lead back-to-school visits at Pimville, Soweto
As part of the Gauteng Provincial Government’s 2025 Back-to-School Campaign, the MEC for Health and Wellness, Nomantu Nkomo- Ralehoko together with Johannesburg Executive Mayor Cllr Dada Morero, will tomorrow, 15 January, lead visits to four schools in Pimville, Soweto.
The purpose of these visits is to assess the schools' readiness for the 2025 academic year and engage learners and teachers on challenges affecting the schooling environment. These range from critical issues such as teenage pregnancy and drug abuse, to the state of school infrastructure which have an impact on learner progress.
The visits will also highlight the Integrated School Health Programme work and the Youth Zones within community health facilities, which provide youth-friendly services, safe spaces, and healthcare support tailored for young people. These facilities are operated by young healthcare professionals and aim to address the health needs of the youth.
Activities for the day will include uniform and stationery distribution, tree planting to promote environmental awareness and school walkabouts to engage with learners and educators.
