Mahikeng Provincial Hospital to get new boilers
North West Health MEC Madoda Sambatha will tomorrow, 05 October 2020 receive new boilers at Mahikeng Provincial Hospital at 08h00.
The two boilers are meant for Mahikeng Provincial Hospital and will immediately replace the old ones, which have proven to be unreliable due to old age.
The current existing two boilers were surveyed towards the end of 2018 to assess their condition and to determine if they are fit for service. Due to the overheating incidents, the two Premier Metals boilers were documented not to be fit for service as well as risky because they were not complying with Occupational Health and Safety regulations.
Taking into account the age of the boilers, missing documentation, the extent of the damage and lack of statutory inspections of the boilers in the past, the two boilers are now in the process of being replaced.
The new boilers will provide steam and improve the following services:
1) Cooking with large steam pots and steam cookers in the central kitchen of the Hospital.
2) Heating water for all warm water needs.
3) Laundry services, including washing machines and steam ironing presses.
4) Autoclaves for instruments.
The development at Mahikeng Provincial Hospital forms part of commitments made by MEC Sambatha following his appointment in 2018 to unblock all service delivery challenges.
Members of the media are invited.
