MEC Lebogang Motlhaping launches Thuma Mina Campaign in Galeshewe, 17 Aug

MEC Motlhaping to launch Department's Thuma Mina Campaign

The Department of Transport, Safety and Liaison will tomorrow launch the Thuma Mina Campaign of the Department in Galeshewe led by MEC Lebogang Motlhaping who will also visit families of two women who died in a fire.

Officials of the Department in collaboration with the Sol Plaatje Local Municipality will restore Ipeleng Park in Galeshewe as part of the Thuma Mina Campaign in an effort to reclaim public spaces to ensure that communities are and feel safe.  The park is rundown with swings broken, its fence stolen and is being misused by people using drugs.  School children still make use of the park after school which further motivates us to reclaim the park to enable them children to have safe spaces to use.

Officials of the Department will do an overhaul at the park including repairing the swings, installing a fence, planting trees and painting the park.

The campaign will also be followed by MEC Motlhaping’s visit to the families of the two women who died in a fire where he will be accompanied the Head of Department Mr Moeketsi Dichaba and senior officials of the Department to convey their condolences to the family and community.  It is still unclear as to what led to the incident.
Meanwhile, in a different engagement, a delegation of women led by senior female managers of the Department will visit the Kimberley Rehabilitation Centre to encourage women at the centre and handover hygiene picks and sanitary towels as part of Women’s Month initiatives.
