MEC Lebogang Maile embarks on cleaning up Loop Spruit Wetland in Kokosi, 15 Feb

Merafong Youth Encouraged to Care for Wetlands

The Gauteng Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (GDARD) MEC Lebogang Maile and Merafong Mayor Cllr Maphefo Mogale-Letsie will tomorrow embark on cleaning up Loop Spruit Wetland in Kokosi.  
 
The Clean-up is in line with the 2018 World Wetland Day theme: Wetlands for Sustainable Urban Future.
Grade 3-7 learners from three local Primary schools will partake in the day’s activities.  “We realise the importance of actively involving young people in caring for the environment,” says GDARD MEC Lebogang Maile.
 
Learners will use edutainment to demonstrate their understanding of environmental awareness.
 
The Loop Spruit is situated in the Gauteng and North-West Provinces and is part of the Mooi River catchment area which forms part of the Vaal River catchment area (Merafong City Local Municipality, 2014).
