MEC Jacob Mamabolo visits Blyvooruitzicht mines as water gets reconnected, 15 Jun

Following the signing of the Declaration of Intent on Thursday in an urgent meeting between Merafong Local Municpality, COGTA, Human Rights Commission, Lawyers for Human Rights and the mine’s Liquidators, MEC Jacob Mamabolo will visit Blyvooruitzicht mines on Monday 15 June 2015 to ensure the implementation of the agreement.

Two weeks ago MEC Mamabolo visited the mine as part of fact-finding mission and thereafter started engaging with different parties. The municipality had cut the water supply to the mine following a failure by the liquidators to pay to pay R4m monthly fee to keep the service running.

According to the major breakthrough brokered on Thursday, water supply will be reconnected through Rand Water by no later than 15 June 2015. According to the Declaration of Intent signed, the urgent court application that was supposed to sit the following day was postponed indefinitely.
