MEC Ismail Vadi reopens rehabilitated R55 sinkhole route, 6 Dec

Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport, Ismail Vadi, will on Thursday, 06 December 2018, officially reopen the rehabilitated R55 (Quagga Road) near Laudium, Tshwane.

The section of the road was rehabilitated following the development of a sinkhole on the busy route earlier in the year. This led to sections of the road between Second and Third Avenues being closed to traffic.

The Department undertook investigations into various remedial methodologies to accelerate the repair process after a detailed dolomitic stability survey was conducted by geotechnical experts.

The repairs, undertaken at a cost of R12 million, involved filling the sinkhole with suitable material and its compaction until the area was completely stable and returned to ground level.
