Gauteng to officially open the R90 million Bronkhorstpruit road project
Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport, Ismail Vadi, will on Tuesday, 17 April 2018, officially open the rehabilitated Road D670 between Bronkhorstspruit and Ekangala, east of Tshwane.
The R90 million project was launched in November 2016 and has been completed eight months ahead of schedule.
The road carries heavy traffic volumes, including coal trucks running between various mines and power stations. As a result, the road condition deteriorated and was in need of rehabilitation.
The rehabilitated road is envisioned to stimulate local economic participation and growth. Furthermore, it will improve traffic capacity, particularly coal haulers travelling from Ekangala area towards the N4.
The department’s commitment to providing training, skills development and empowering BBBEE contractors, saw the main contractor sub-contracting a percentage of the work to local SMMEs.
