Gauteng to launch mobile APP for all public transport modes

As part of the Provincial Government’s plans of gearing up for the Fourth Industrial Revolution and modernisation of public transport, Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport, Ismail Vadi, will on Thursday, 15 March 2018, launch the “Gauteng on the Move” mobile application (App) for all public transport modes.

The application is aimed at providing commuters with real time, accurate public transit information; timetables as well as fares for Gauteng based public transit operators. These include Gautrain, A re Yeng,  Rea Vaya, Metrorail, Gautrain Bus Services, Johannesburg City Sightseeing, minibus taxis, long distance busses and the Tshwane Bus Services.

Furthermore, the application will allow for users to plan their journeys with the option to select desired transport modes, travel times as well as criteria specific to travel modes (i.e. shortest vs. cheapest trip).

“We are already seeing the power of technology that every day is reshaping public transport services, marketing and consumption. The global technological changes we are currently witnessing are sparking a revolution in the transport sector,” said Vadi.

“We will therefore use innovation, research and development emanating from the Fourth Industrial Revolution to promote a smart province to improve efficiency and access to services. This will be pursued through strategic investments in ICT infrastructure,” he added.

Details and demonstration of the application’s functionality will take place at the Mobility Seminar scheduled as follows:
