MEC Ishmael Kgetjepe conducts door to door campaign to commemorate World AIDS Day in Malamulele, 9 to 11 Dec

The MEC for Health Mr Ishmael Kgetjepe will conduct a door to door campaign in the area of Xipurapureni, Malamulele as part of the World AIDS Day activities in the province.

A discourse will be held with some members of the community regarding HIV/AIDS, TB and other illnesses. The MEC will then proceed to the Thohoyandou prison to interact with inmates and ensure that HIV Counselling and Testing (HCT) services are provided to those who are in need.

World AIDS Day is normally commemorated on 1 December annually, however the province of Limpopo will commence its activities from 9 to 11 December 2014 in the District of Vhembe to provide HCT services as part of the efforts to empower, support those living with HIV/AIDS as well as creating awareness about the services available from government.

The province is living up to the commitments made by the MEC during his budget vote that HIV/AIDS as well as TB will be fought from all fronts with key partners in the sector to ensure that those infected access treatment and to encourage others to test and know their status.

Various teams comprising of key departmental partners such as the Foundation for Professional Development (FPD), Aurum, Agri-Aids and the Centre for Positive care will start with HCT activities from 9 to 11 December in the areas around Malamulele.

An amount of R978 million has been set aside to address challenges of HIV/AIDS and R48 million for TB for the 2014/15 financial year.

The theme for this year is "Zero Stigma and Zero Discrimination for all".
