MEC to host President Zuma during harvesting maize in Dutywa

On the eve of Madiba’s 95th Birthday, 17 July the MEC for Rural Development and Agrarian Reform Zoleka Capa will host President Jacob Zuma during a harvesting drive at Ngcingwana village, the home to struggle stalwart and mother of Former President Thabo Mbeki, Epainatte.

The visit to the village will see the department donating four industrial sewing machines to a women’s corporative where MaMbeki is actively involved. This is part of the department’s provincial wide drive to support and train rural women in the informal textile industry so that they can enter the mainstream market.

The day will start with a visit to Nqadu Great Place, where AmaXhosa King Zwelonke will – on behalf of his nation - receive 10 Nguni heifers and bull as well Boer goats donated by the department. The department will also erect hydroponics at Nqadu for the production of high value crops including tomatoes – this is line with department’s vision of promoting rural development through the participation of traditional leaders.

At Ngcingwane village the department has planted 100 hectors of maize and President Zuma accompanied to some of his cabinet members and their provincial counterparts including local government leaders will join villagers in their first harvest.

Members of the media are cordially invited this august event.
