MEC Helen Sauls-August to open multi purpose community centre at KSD Presidential project

MEC Helen Sauls-August will open a complete, newly built multi-purpose community centre, the first handover of a project in the Presidential Intervention in King Sabata Dalindyebo established in 2009.

The centre will have a multi Hall for baseball, volleyball, table tennis, indoor soccer, a stage for performance, meeting rooms, offices. This facility will also provide opportunities for youth who resort to crime in the area.

Human Settlements is one of the catalytic projects in the R1 billion rand KSD Presidential Intervention aimed at revitalising Mthatha area. The Inter - Ministerial Committee on KSD Presidential Intervention streamlined six catalytic projects:

  • Human settlements
  • Sewer
  • Roads infrastructure
  • Water infrastructure
  • Electricity
  • Airport building upgrade.

Human Settlement projects on the KSD intervention include the Informal Settlement Upgrade Programme (ISUP) in Nelson Mandela, Joe Slovo, Phola Park and Chris Hani informal settlements and Ngangelizwe. Phase 1 of this project will focus on the provision of interim services and planning for 6 600 units. The department has also committed funding for internal bulk services and top structures. The piloting of Alternative Building Technology Project has begun in Ngangelizwe.
