MEC Helen Sauls-August hands over title deeds to Somerset East and Pearston housing beneficiaries, 6 Sept

Housing beneficiaries to receive title deeds

Hundreds of housing beneficiaries in Somerset East and Pearston are set to receive their title deeds from the Eastern Cape MEC for Human Settlements, Helen Sauls-August on Wednesday, 6 September 2017. A total of 471 title deeds will be given to beneficiaries on the day.

Government seeks to fastrack the transfer and issuing of title deeds through the Title Deeds Restoration Programme. The title deeds Restoration Programme is a national programme that is aimed at addressing title deeds backlog in the country and is being rolled out by the Provincial Departments of Human Settlements across the country.

This year, the province has set aside R10 million rand to register and transfer title deeds to the rightful beneficiaries and will transfer 10 000 title deeds to correct homeowners this year.

Last financial year, the department ensured that 8 249 title deeds were registered and transferred to rightful beneficiaries. Between 2011-2016, the department transferred title deeds to about over 35 000 beneficiaries. A title deed provides security of tenure.
