MEC to harvest maize in Flagstaff

MEC for Rural Development and Agrarian Reform Zoleka Capa cordially invites members of the media to attend the harvesting drive scheduled to be held at Ndukudeni village in Flagstaff.

Villagers at village have benefited from the department’s through new ploughing mode – in which it cost R8 800 to plough a hector. The villagers contributed at least R1 800 per hector while the department forked out the remaining R7 000.

The famers that were not able to raise the required contributions were given “soft loans” by Eastern Cape Rural Development Agency (ECRDA) – the loan will not incur any interest during the first 12 months and there will be discount incentive for paying the debt back before the lapse of that period.

In Ndukudeni, a total of 200 hectors have been planted.

The department once again invites members of the media to join it as it celebrates with the community in their endeavours in contributing towards food security in the Province.
