MEC Fikile Xasa visits Sundays River Valley on service delivery mission, 25 Apr

The MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA), Fikile Xasa will visit Sundays River Valley (SRV) local municipality tomorrow, 25 April 2019. His visit is in response to a petition he received from the South African National Civic Organisation (SANCO) in the Sarah Baartman Region in March 2019.

In a visit by the SANCO Regional leadership to MEC Xasa this month, it was agreed that the MEC should visit the SRV municipality to interact with the municipal leadership as well as the community of SRV municipality.

Amongst their grievances as outlined in the petition, SANCO is alleging the following, amongst other things,

  • No delivery of services in the SRV municipality;
  • No temporary houses are provided when houses are burnt through fires or other disaster situations;
  • Chief Financial Officer’s contract must not be renewed through allegations of corruption;
  • Leakages and sewer running down the streets unattended to by the municipality.

During the visit, MEC Xasa will first meet with municipal leadership at 10h00 and at 11h00 will hold a meeting with the community of Sarah Baartman.

“Ours is to coordinate a response team from various sector departments to address the concerns of the community. As a single window of co-ordination we are responsible to mobilise support and resources from other sector departments for meaningful delivery of services. We must put the interest and concerns of our communities first,” said MEC Xasa.
