MEC Xasa on a service delivery monitoring visits to OR Tambo District
The MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) FD Xasa will embark on a two day monitoring visit to the OR Tambo District Municipality. He will be joined by his top management team led by the Head of Department (HOD) Ms Nombulelo Hackula.
The visit seeks to strengthen democratic institutions and improve service delivery through the implementation of the Back to Basics (B2B) programme. The dates for the visit are from 16-17 July 2015. B2B is a government programme to serve our people and communities better by improving service delivery in municipalities. The municipality amongst other things is faced with backlogs in service delivery including housing, water, sanitation and roads infrastructure.
The five pillars of the B2B programme are putting people first, delivering basic services, good governance, sound financial management and building capable local government institutions.
“We are making a statement of hope through the implementation of the B2B to work together to expand the frontiers of human dignity and create better communities. I have a clear electoral mandate to deliver on key priorities that must ensure that visible, tangible and positive changes are felt in all our rural and urban communities. B2B is our strategic service delivery model to serve our people better,” said MEC Xasa.
During the outreach visit, MEC Xasa will interact with political and administrative leadership of the municipality, Ward Committees as well as other key stakeholders.
On Mandela Day, 17 July 2015, the MEC will be hosted in Ngangelizwe, Mkhathini Primary School. The day’s activities include painting of two (2) blocks of classrooms, a staff room, grass cutting and cleaning of the school yard and garden. Twenty (20) certificates will be handed over by MEC Xasa to participants of the Community Work Programme (CWP) who were train in First Aid and Home Based Care.
