Despite lack of resources in the area, nyaope addicts in Ekangala near Bronkhorstspruit, 50 km east of Pretoria have decided to set up their own “rehabilitation center” with the aim of healing themselves and possibly attracting intervention by government and business people.
The MEC for Gauteng Department of Social Development Ms. Faith Mazibuko, accompanied by her team, will visit the area to assess the situation and engage stakeholders that have shown interest in the matter.
According to reports from departmental officials and media, a group of youths, between the ages of 16 and 32 years are camping at a community hall in a bid to kick the habit. They started by discussing in small groups and mobilised others to take a hardline-personal decision to address their plight.
