MEC Faith Mazibuko briefs Gauteng Provincial Legislature on Community Safety on enforcement of Coronavirus Covid-19 Lockdown regulations, 21 May

Committee to be briefed on enforcement of lockdown regulations in Gauteng

The Gauteng Provincial Legislature’s Portfolio Committee on Community Safety will on Thursday, 21 May 2020 at 13h00 during a virtual meeting be briefed by the Gauteng MEC for Community Safety Ms Faith Mazibuko and the Provincial Police Commissioner Lt Gen. Elias Mawela on the enforcement of the National Disaster Regulations and related matters during the nationwide lockdown.

The briefing will focus on the positive strides made by law enforcement authorities in enforcing these regulations as well as concerns around the abuse of power by authorities in the course of enforcing these regulations.

The Committee will also be briefed on the number of crime related cases during the lockdown which include cases of gender-based violence which has emerged as a serious source of concern for the Committee during the lockdown.
