MEC Desbo Mohono revitalises Kgolagano vegetable project, 7 Feb

MEC Mohono brings Kgolagano vegetable projectback to production

The North West MEC for Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Ms Desbo Mohono will tomorrow, Friday, 7 February 2014, revitalise Kgolagano vegetable project in Ganyesa village, south of Vryburg, by planting vegetable seedlings.

Mohono who is currently on oversight visits to agricultural projects funded by the department throughout the province, identified the need for this project to be invigorated during her visit to the project two weeks ago.

Tomorrow, this 2ha project which is currently managed by two women will be a hive of activity, as the MEC will be re-launching the project and planting spinach, beetroot and cabbage seedlings under the tunnels.

Mohono says while the project was funded by the department during the 2011/12 financial year, with 12 beneficiaries, the department is concerned that only two beneficiaries are currently active, and that some infrastructure provided for the project gets stolen.

“Addressing household food security is key to the challenges facing the sector, and communities must begin to realise that it does not matter how much we have of other things, if we do not have enough to eat, then we are in serious trouble," says MEC Mohono.

The re-launching of and planting at the project will start at 10h00 at the site which is about 4km west of Ganyesa village.

Members of the media are invited.
