MEC Dan Plato hosts Youth focussed religious leaders’ safety outreach in Langa, 4 Nov

Tomorrow, Saturday 4 November 2017, Western Cape MEC of Community Safety, Dan Plato, together with officials from the Department of Community Safety, will host a youth focussed religious leaders’ safety outreach in Langa.

MEC Plato will address the religious fraternity in Langa on the many challenges our youth are facing, as well as the possible solutions, from society-as-a-whole, to help the youth in their continued development and safeguarding.

Most notably, MEC Plato will discuss with the religious fraternity the various ways in which to partner with the Department of Community Safety through the Youth, Safety and Religious Partnership (YSRP) programme. The programme was first piloted in 2012 and sees the department partner with the religious fraternity in the province to operate various youth projects with the aim of reaching youth during the school holidays.

In the last financial year, the Department partnered with 189 religious organisations, operating in 58 areas and reached more than 22 000 youth during the school holidays, providing them with safer alternatives to negative social behaviours and the lure of underage drinking, gangsterism and drugs.

For the upcoming festive season school holidays, the department will again be partnering with our religious fraternity to help increase youth safety in communities.

There will be an opportunity for photographs and interviews.
