North West MEC for Local Government and Traditional Affairs, Collen Maine provides feedback on Lekwa Teemane Municipality

North West MEC for Local Government and Traditional Affairs, Collen Maine, will on Monday, 13 October 2014, provide feedback on the issues that the community of Boitumelong Township in Lekwa Teemane local municipality, raised earlier in the year about the municipality.

The community of Boitumelong had early in the year, staged violent protests in demand for a full blown investigation into allegations of fraud, nepotism, corruption and maladministration against the municipality. These violent protests saw houses belonging to the then Mayor, Rebecca Makodi her relatives, councillors and police officials torched, the N12 road between Kimberley and Johannesburg barricaded with burning tyres and stones thrown at passing cars and trucks.
