MEC Capa to embark on a harvesting spree

The MEC for Rural Development and Agrarian Reform Zoleka Capa will tomorrow Thursday, 23 May embark of a harvesting spree in the Amathole District and members of the media are invited.

The MEC, accompanied by MEC for Local Government M. Qoboshiyane, will start her harvesting at Nombanjana village in Ncentane, where she will harvest maize in an initiative that the community did together with Wiphold a subsidiary of Mutual and Federal Group.

After completing the harvesting in Ncentane, the MEC will go to Ncera Village where she will mark the first harvest of Macadamia nuts and launch the Ncera Macadamia Farming Pty Ltd.

The department has supported the Community Private Partnership with more than R40 million since 2005 through Vulindlela Investment Trust (VIT), which is owned by all nine Ncera villages and is intended to benefit all legitimate Ncera residents as approved by the Community and the local Chieftainess.

VIT embarked on a partnership with Government and Private sector to establish a 300ha Macadamia Project in the Ncera area and to date 110ha has been planted with 50ha ready to be harvested in 2013.
