The Free State Department of Health has lined up several activities across the province to observe and commemorate the International Mandela Day on the 18 July 2014, this will see the MEC of Health Dr. Benny Malakoane, the Premier Mr. Ace Magashule and other members of the Executive Council visiting identified hospitals in the province like Pelonomi Hospital (Premier Ace Magashule, MEC Sam Mashinini), and MEC for Sports, Arts, Culture will visit Fezi Ngubentombi Hospital in Sasolburg. The Deputy Minister for Police Me M Sotyu will also visit Botshabelo Hospital. Wherein, she will be accompanied by MEC for Health Dr. Benny Malakoane.
These activities were carefully selected and planned to make sure that they resonate with this year’s theme “Take Action, Inspire Change and Make Everyday a Mandela Day”. As we roll out these activities in honor of the 67 years of the selfless and interrupted contribution by Nelson Mandela to the liberation of the people of South Africa, we will also use it to continue to inspire action to make sure that all our health facilities are empowered and supported to provide quality health care services.
The Executive Council has already taken a decision that all MECs must each adopt a hospital which they will support, inspire, and mentor. In addition, the MEC for Health Dr. Benny Malakoane will visit the family of Maphike in Winburg in which there are two paralyzed members of the family, a boy and a girl. The MEC will hand out one (1) wheelchair to the family and twelve (12) walking devises to other identified members of the Winburg community. Other activities in the area will include starting a food garden in the clinic for the community and handing out of ambulances for Lejweleputswa district. The MEC will also proceed to address a group of learners on hand wash campaign in the community and environmental waste. Demonstrations will be done on ways of hand washing techniques and first aid exercise will be performed by EHP and EMS shift leader. The MEC will then conclude his programme by participating in the activity wherein insertions of the implant contraceptives on three patients will be done.
The detailed progamme for MECs and Premier and the departmental officials is as follows:
- MEC for Health, Dr. Benny Malakoane will visit the family of Maphike in Winburg allocating (1) wheelchair and (12) walking devices to other identified families.
- National Deputy Minister for Police, Ms M Sotyu will be embarking on cleaning of Botshabelo Hospital
- Honourable Premier ES Magashule and MEC for Public Works, Mr S Mashinini to visit Pelonomi Hospital for cleaning of the hospital, cutting of the grass, assist with plumbing requirement
- MEC for Sports Arts Culture and Recreation, Ms Leeto will visit Fezi Ngubentombi Hospital in Sasolburg and Parys Hospital. In Fezi Ngubentombi she will spearhead cleaning of the facility, handing over of cleaning material and 308 blankets, establishment of a Jovial Corner and toy Library in Peads Ward, installation of 2 Burglar Proof to Kids Ward doors, 4 Mandela’s Depictions & wall paintings, installation of heavy duty Curtain Rails at Maternity Ward. In Parys Hospital MEC Leeto with Metsimaholo Municipality they will be cleaning of the facility, handing over of cleaning material and 91 blankets, painting of hospital fence, donating 12 Tables for children, 8 mats, 48 chairs and toys
