The Hope for the Helpless Children's Home was started by Mr and Mrs Mabala in 1980. The couple welcomed abandoned children and those living on the streets into their home and provided for them through their income. The Department of Correctional Services is assisting the orphanage in various ways, including donating food items produced by offenders on the department's farms.

At the second project, a child-headed household in Tladi, offender labour is being put to good use as they are helping a contractor to completely refurbish this home. Minister Ndebele will help to paint the house.
