Mandela Day – Working together for a cleaner South Africa

The Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries in partnership with the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, and the local municipality will embark on a two-phased programme in commemoration of Mandela Day at Impendle Local Municipality at Mazwendoda Senior Secondary School on Friday, 18 July.

The programme of the day will see the Deputy Minister, General Bheki Cele, MEC Cyril Xaba and other officials pledge 67 minutes of their time ploughing vegetable gardens, in line with the department’s vision to ensure food security for all.

The Deputy Minister, General Cele will later address about 2 000 youth to inculcate the importance of young people being involved in agriculture. DAFF is geared towards empowering young people in the sector and has a radical approach aimed at creating 1 000 000 jobs in the sector by 2030 as indicated in the National Development Plan.
