The Eastern Cape MEC for Local Government and Traditional Affairs, Mr Mlibo Qoboshiyane will on Friday, 8 November 2013 hand over Jonguxolo Primary School in the educational district of Libode near Umtata.
The MEC joins a list of Ministers, Deputies and Eastern Cape EXCO members who have handed over state of the art schools to replace the mud structures that previously existed.
The school is built as part of the ASIDI (Accelerated Schools Infrastructure Delivery Initiative) by the Department of Basic Education and under the banner of the broader Presidential Infrastructure Coordinating Commission.
The initiative aims to eradicate all mud schools and inappropriate structures, as well refurbish dilapidated and ill equipped schools and has a National Output plan which will see the eradication of 496 mud schools, the provision of water and sanitation to 1 257 schools and electricity to 878 schools.
