Limpopo Provincial Government hosts SMS capacity building programmes, 24 Oct

Update on the Provincial SMS capacity building with the University of Witwatersrand (Wits School of Governance)

Limpopo Provincial Government in partnership with University of Witwatersrand (Wits School of Governance) will host a meeting of Limpopo Provincial Administration and Wits School of Governance to launch the SMS capacity building programme on the 24th October 2017, at Bolvia Lodge Polokwane. Departments are expected to enrol SMS members as prioritised by the Provincial Administration to capacitate them in courses such as: Public Sector Governance and Risk Management, Programme and Project Management, Public Finance and Fiscal Management, Monitoring Planning and Management, Procurement and Supply Chain. These programmes are aimed at closing the skills gap in the SMS echelon.

The minister of public services and administration issued a directive in November 2014 on compulsory capacity development, mandatory training days, and minimum entry requirements for SMS members, the objectives of which among others are:

  • To promote continuous professional development of SMS members
  • Ensuring that training on identified skills gaps is implemented
  • Compulsory training programs aimed at addressing development needs of SMS members
  • To achieve competent SMS cadre
  • Strengthening SMS recruitment process

The programme is targeting one hundred and fifty-five (155) SMS members for the financial year 2017/2018.
