Limpopo Provincial Government commemorates Youth Day – Vhembe District
Limpopo Premier, Mr. Chupu Stanley Mathabatha will lead the provincial Executive Council (EXCO) to commemorate Youth Day at Mudavula Stadium, Collins Chabane Local Municipality, Vhembe District. The commemoration is held under the theme:
“Accelerating youth economic emancipation for a sustainable future.”
This commemoration is part of the government’s effort to preserve the legacy of the class of 1976 for the key role they played in the struggle against apartheid. Government calls on today’s youth to awaken the spirit of 1976, where young people were actively involved in defining their future and the country they wanted.
The year 2023 marks the 47th anniversary since the 1976 uprising where scores of students protested, against others, the use of Afrikaans as a medium of instruction. The protest started in Soweto and spread to other parts of the country. Thousands of peaceful
protesters were brutally killed by apartheid regime.
The provincial government, the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA), and other organs of state will render full services on the day. Government will continue to focus on a spectrum of opportunities for young people ranging from employment,
entrepreneurship, skills development, and support to link youth with the labour market.
Media may confirm attendance with Jimmy Malebati on 066 302 1213 or Itani Rambado on 072 917 6346.
