Foundation phase learners compete in languages and mathematics

Language practitioners and engineers are not created at institutions of higher learning. They start from foundation phase. To make this a reality, fifty seven Grade 3 learners from all five districts will compete in the Foundation Phase Reading and Creative Writing competition this weekend.

Learners will enjoy reading and creative writing in nine official languages offered at foundation phase and mathematics. This competition aims at creating the reading interest and the love to mathematics subject and provides learners with good foundation in preparation for their future academic careers.

Limpopo is known for doing well in these competitions. Recently, a grade 5 Dikolobe Primary School learner put Limpopo on the national map. Malakia Mapheto competed with learners from all the provinces in the National Spelling BEE competition and brought home position three award. Winners in the provincial competition will amongst other receive certificates and trophies.

Teachers will also receive packs of books to continue to encourage learners to read.
