Limpopo Department of Sport, Arts and Culture (DSAC) celebrates Mandela Day by hosting junior dipapadi

Limpopo Department of Sport, Arts and Culture will celebrate the International Nelson Mandela day under the theme “Mobilising the society in community development” by hosting Junior-Dipapadi; which is the department’s flag ship programme.

The programme provides physical active play for children and at the same time lays excellent foundation for participation in sport. This year, the departmental Mandela day will take place at Polokwane Cricket Club, Polokwane Municipality, Capricorn District, on the 18th of July 2013 at 9h00.

The main aim is to join the global call to action for people to recognise their ability to have positive effects on others around them; promote social cohesion and promote children participation in sporting initiatives. The department has targeted 500 children from the pre-schools and crèches around Polokwane. The activities include; Bag Race, Egg Race, Bottle Race, Peg Race, Water Bottle Race, Tug of War, River Bank etc.

Mandela Day on July 18 is an annual international day adopted by the United Nations. It is more than a celebration of Nelson Mandela’s life and legacy; it is a global movement to take his life’s work into a new century and change the world for the better.

Mandela Day is a call to action for people everywhere to take responsibility for making the world a better place, one small step at a time, just as Nelson Mandela did. Mandela spent more than 67 years serving his community, his country, and the world at large.

On this day, people are called to devote just 67 minutes of their time to changing the world for the better, in a small gesture of solidarity with humanity, and in a small step towards a continuous, global movement for good.
