Legal and Policy Research Institutions are presenting to the Enquiry

The Ministerial Enquiry on Nomzamo (Lwandle) evictions will on Wednesday, 10 September 2014 receive oral presentations from representatives of the relevant parties/organisations.

Each organisation will be afforded an opportunity to present a paper that focuses on the following areas:

  • sharing research outcomes on mass evictions and illegal occupation of land;
  • best practices in managing mass evictions;
  • identifying policy and legal loopholes and shortcomings;
  • identifying problems with current practice, and
  • recommendations on appropriate responses.

The parties that have confirmed thus far include higher education institutions; legal and policy research institutions/organisations, and these include the Human Rights Commission of South Africa; National Association of Democratic Lawyers; Lawyers for Human Rights; Community Law Centre- University of Western Cape (UWC); Socio-Economic Rights Institute; South African Slum Dwellers International (SDI) Alliance and the Lwandle Museum.

In the interest of transparency and meaningful public participation the Enquiry will conduct its hearings in public and anyone interested can attend. However, this will apply on the basis of first come first serve due to space limitations. The details are as follows:
