Launch of the report on public hearings on male initiation schools in South Africa

The Commission for the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Cultural, Religious and Linguistic Communities (CRL Rights Commission) is one of the chapter 9 institutions established by the Constitution to strengthen constitutional democracy in South Africa. The CRL Rights Commission will be launching an updated report on public hearings on male initiation schools.

As the male initiation season is approaching for some communities, the Commission aims to reaffirm its commitment to strengthening the systems and integrity of the institution of male initiation. The report aims to bring to light the problems which are still faced by initiation schools. It also makes recommendations addressed to government and other public institutions with the hope for necessary changes to legislation and policy.

The launch will be held as follows:
Date: 24 June 2014 from 9h00 to 13h00
Venue: Protea Hotel Parktonian, 120 De Korte Street, Braamfontein, Johannesburg
