Launch of the National Education Collaboration Trust

President Jacob Zuma will be the keynote speaker at the launch of the National Education Collaboration Trust (NECT) in Pretoria on 16 July.

NECT is a civil-society initiative established in partnership with Government. It aims to create unity and focus among stakeholders in order to achieve the education targets of the National Development Plan.

  • It has the full support and collaboration of government through the Department of Basic Education.
  • All major stakeholder categories – from teacher unions to parent bodies and from business to student structures – will be represented on the National Education Council which will provide guidance to the trust.

NECT is arguably the most ambitious attempt yet to create unity of purpose on education reform and development among diverse – but critically important – stakeholders. It is also envisaged as an instrument for coordinating funding for education and directing this in a manner that will achieve greater returns on investment.

The trust will be guided in its work by an Education Collaboration Framework which spells out clear priorities for action. The framework was developed through a process of consultation under the guidance of a Convening Committee of high-level representatives of business, labour and the non-profit sector.

We would welcome your presence at the launch.
