Launch of Mbizana integrated energy centre (IeC)

An Integrated Energy Centre (IeC) is a one-stop energy shop owned and operated by the community cooperative and organised as a community project. It provides energy solutions to communities, access to affordable safe & sustainable energy services, information and awareness on how to handle and utilise energy services e.g. Paraffin, LPG etc. and small, medium and micro enterprises (SMME) development through partnerships with key stakeholders, such as National Youth Development Agency (NYDA), the Department of Trade and Industry, etc.

The objectives of the IeC programme are to provide access to safe and affordable energy resources to poor households; provide information regarding the safe, efficient and environmentally sustainable use of energy sources and available energy options such as renewable & non-grid energy, etc.; Influence policy in both the public and private sectors regarding energy provision; and put into effect a very strong social responsibility aimed at poverty alleviation, job creation and capacity building.

The Minister of Energy, Ms Dipuo Peters, the Executive mayor of Alfred Nzo District Municipality, Cllr. Eunice Diko, and the Mayor of Mbizana Local Municipality, Cllr. Zoleka Busuku, would cordially like to invite members of the media to attend and cover the above mentioned event which will take place as follows:
