Families are exposed to a number of challenges that affects their stability and functioning. These include poverty and inequality, unemployment, housing, HIV and AIDS, absent fathers, crime, substance abuse, child/youth headed households and moral degeneration.
The family plays a critical role of nurturing and caring for individual members and are a backbone of intergenerational solidarity and social cohesion. Therefore it is important to support and empower families through implementing various intervention strategies to promote self reliance.
The MEC for Social Development, Mr Alvin Botes will be launching the provincial family forum in Kimberley in partnership with relevant government departments, NGO’s, FBO’s and Civil society.
