Launch of Arbor Week

The Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries in partnership with Total South Africa and the Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo will launch Arbor Week at Mofolo City Park in Soweto on 1 September 2014. The National Arbor Week Campaign is celebrated annually from 1 to 7 September.

The year’s theme “Forests and People: Investing in a Sustainable Future” was adopted from the World Forestry Congress, which will be hosted by South Africa in 2015. This year’s campaign will be a platform to promote the congress and to highlight the value and importance of forests. 

Programme of the day

  • 09h00 to 11h00 (Metro Park and Freedom Park)
  • Inner City greening at Metro Park – Minister Senzeni Zokwana and his counterparts will plant the two Trees of the Year. 
  • Freedom Park – Handing out fruit trees to the community.

Kindly note transport to Metro Park will depart from the Mayor’s Parlour at 09:00 (Metro Centre, 158 Loveday Street, Braamfontein).
