The Department of Labour (DoL) led by Labour Minister, Mildred Oliphant, will this week host a two-day Annual Evaluation and Planning Workshop in which the department reviews its programmes and map a future strategic direction.
The workshop, on July 11-12 to be held at Kopanong Conference Centre in Benoni, Ekurhuleni; provides the Department of Labour’s Top Management Team, led by Oliphant, an opportune moment to reflect on the government outcomes, DoL Strategic Plans and Programmes after the end of each financial year.
During the session, problems are assessed and possible solutions to these explored. All this is done within the context of planning for the future and forecasting priorities for the short and the medium term and to consider budget requirements to achieve the objectives.
During the session, the government outcomes are measured against the DoL Strategic Objectives that of: Contribution to Employment Creation; Promote Equity in the Labour Market; Protecting Vulnerable Workers; Strengthening Social Protection; Promoting Sound Labour Relations and Monitoring the Impact of Legislation.
Oliphant will open the gathering by sketching an overview of the government strategic issues. She will be followed by Director-General Nkosinathi Nhleko who will elaborate on the Resolutions of the previous Annual Evaluation Workshop.
Various business branches of the department from Corporate Services, Inspection and Enforcement Services, Public Employment Services, and Labour Policy & Industrial Research – including the department’s public entities like Productivity SA, Sheltered Employment Factories, the Commission for Conciliation Mediation and Arbitration, the Unemployment Insurance Fund and the Compensation Fund – will also be afforded an opportunity to share on their performance.
