Labour hosts Unemployment Insurance Fund awareness campaign in Senekal, 12 Sept

The Department of Labour’s (DoL) Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) will be hosting an awareness campaign in Senekal, Setsoto Local Municipality, on the 12 September 2015. The campaign will be held at Tumisang Primary School situated in Matwabeng location and will start at 11h00.

The Unemployment Insurance Act gives effect to the establishment of the Unemployment Insurance Fund to which employers and employees contribute and from which employees who become unemployed or their beneficiaries, as the case may be, are entitled to benefits. By doing so it alleviates the harmful economic and social effects of unemployment.

This campaign is one of numerous outreach programmes of the department and the UIF which are intended to educate and inform employers, workers, the unemployed and the general public about UIF, its services and the benefits thereof.  It is also part of a nationwide public awareness drive which has been going from province to province targeting vulnerable workers in particular.

In attendance will be a high delegation of officials of the department led by the UIF Commissioner, Mr. Boas Seruwe, the head of the Department of Labour in the Free State province, Ms. Marsha Bronkhorst and other senior officials from both the Fund and DoL.

Through the mobile computer systems of the department, workers having challenges with payments of benefits and/or any other UIF related issues, e.g. checking whether or not they are registered with the Fund, will be assisted at the event.

Other services of the department such as those offered by the Compensation Fund will also be availed to clients and stakeholders.

The media is invited.
