Labour hosts UIF community outreach programme in Bloemfontein, 26 to 27 Nov

Under the auspices of the Department of Labour, UIF engages members of the community during an outreach programme

The Department of Labour’s (DoL) Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) will be hosting a community outreach programme in Bloemfontein on the 26 to 27 November 2015. This two-day event will be held at Twin City Mall which is situated in Heidedal, and will start at 09h00am until 15h00 for each of the two days.

This campaign is aimed at galvanising community members and workers in particular, to learn more about the UIF, its services and the benefits thereof. Through the mobile computer systems of the Department, workers having challenges with payments of benefits and/or any other UIF related issues will be assisted at the event.

A delegation from the UIF’s Free State provincial office led by Ms. Gugu Khomo, who is heading UIF in the Province, will also be in attendance to oversee the processes as they unfold.

“In response to the Government’s resolve that all state departments should ensure that we bring services closer to the people, the Unemployment Insurance Fund saw it fit to organise this outreach programme which is aimed at reaching out to our clients, those in far-flung areas in particular.

We therefore call upon the community of Mangaung to seize this opportunity presented to them by the Fund,” Ms. Khomo said.

“In this instance, members of the public will be afforded the opportunity to be advised on UIF matters, check if they are registered with the Fund and/or check how far their claims and applications for benefits are, and all of these will be done right at the mall. However, of critical importance is to note that due to the nature and the flow of the UIF application process, no new applications for benefits will be made at the event,” she further explained.

Established in terms of Section 4 (1) of the Unemployment Insurance Act, 36 of 2001 as amended, the UIF cushions the blow for the unemployed for a period not exceeding nine months. By doing so it alleviates the harmful economic and social effects of unemployment.
