Scores of people flock Tshepahalo Community Hall to access Department of Labour services
Multitudes of people flocked the Tshepahalo Community Hall in Viljoenskroon to gain access to the services of the Department of Labour. Constituted by farm dwellers and clients from surrounding towns, the community hall was full to the brim. To that end, no less than 284 clients attended the campaign.
Department of Labour officials also braced themselves to provide instant service to stakeholders and clients at their place of residence. Clients with injury on duty claims were assisted right on the spot, they were examined by qualified health care professionals and their claims processed immediately.
To this end, 68 clients were assisted by the Fund, with 13 permanent disablement claims being processed and approved instantly. 53 medical service provider claims were also processed and paid to settle medical costs for employees who sustained injuries at work. As a result, a whooping R710 605 was paid over to those medical service providers.
Owing to the success of the campaign, 3 pensions were confirmed as the severity of injuries sustained was above 31%. 7 fatal cases were also registered with the Fund and further investigations will be embarked upon to ensure surviving family members are paid their dues. 7 finalization letters for those with minor injuries were issued immediately.
Clients with UIF related applications were also assisted by the full compliment of the entire process flow of the Fund. Clients moved from one table to another and by the time they left the hall their claims had been approved. UIF processed, approved and paid 11 applicantions immediately amounting to R46 960.54.
Edith Madisebene Baba, a grand mother who applied for the UIF’s death benefit for children of her late daughter, was elated after she was told that her claim has been approved and paid immediately.
Mamokwena Josephine Mosia was also ecstatic to learn that her old application was approved and paid. “I lost my job in 2015 and have been struggling to get my benefits paid to me. Hunger and starvation were the order of the day in my house, I did not know what to say to my children every time they asked for food. This money is a relief I have been longing for,” she said.
Public Employment Services Unit assisted 95 clients with 56 of those registering their own CVs on the Employment System of South Africa (ESSA). On the same token, Inspection and Enforcement Services Unit registered 16 unreported Occupational Health and Safety incidents and 16 cases of employees whose employers are yet to register them with UIF.
