Labour hosts campaign on Unemployment Insurance Fund, 25 May

UIF taking its services to the people

The Department of Labour’s Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) will be hosting a mall campaign as part of its decision to bring its services closer to the people.  This campaign is aimed at rendering quality, effective and instant services to the clients of the Fund closer to their places of residence.  The purpose of this campaign is to also galvanize community members and workers in particular, to learn more about the UIF, its services and the benefits thereof.

This campaign will be held at Lemo Mall in Bloemfontein this coming Friday, 25 May 2018, from 09:00am until 17:00pm. Through the mobile computer systems of the Department, workers having challenges with payments of benefits and/or any other UIF related issues will be assisted on the spot at the venue.  Members of the public will also be afforded the opportunity to be advised on UIF matters right at the Mall.

Established in terms of Section 4 (1) of the Unemployment Insurance Act, 36 of 2001 as amended, the UIF cushions the blow for the unemployed for a period not exceeding nine months.  By doing so it alleviates the harmful economic and social effects of unemployment.

In a quest to bring about inclusivity and cohesiveness in the provision of the Department of Labour services, the Department’s Compensation Fund (CF) will also be rendering its services to the public at the same venue.  Clients with injury on duty claims, or claims of diseases contracted at the workplace are urged to come in their numbers to get assistance.

Clients for both UIF and CF are therefore requested to bring along any documentation, related to their individual claims, in their possession to ensure a speedy and seamless processing of their applications for benefits.  “We are particularly calling upon those clients with old applications/claims to come and get assisted.  We will have a team of officials with all relevant competencies to process their claims right on the spot,” said Nomfundo Douw-Jack – Chief Director: Provincial Operations.
