The Deputy Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development, John Jeffery, will deliver a keynote address during the symbolic burial of the late struggle Umkhonto we Sizwe (MK) hero Moss Morudu on 25 October 2013 at Freedom Park. The symbolic burial of Moss Morudu will be coordinated in line with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) recommendation.
In late October 1987, the Northern Transvaal Security Branch sent several policemen posing as MK members to Potchefstroom where Moss was living undercover. These policemen pretended to be taking him into exile, but he was taken in police custody.
According to their amnesty application, Moss was then taken to Kaallaagte Farm outside Hammanskraal where he was held and interrogated. Moss’s ultimate fate and whereabouts remained unknown for over two decades. The Missing Persons Task Team (NPA) has determined that Moss Morudu was killed and his body blown up between Pienaarsrivier and Kgomo Kgomo village in what was then Bophuthatswana, now North West province.
