Joint Sitting of Parliament to debate President's State of the Nation Address and to hear President's reply

In a departure from the practice since 1994, both Houses of Parliament – the National Assembly (NA) and National Council of Provinces (NCOP) will take part in debate on President Jacob Zuma’s State of the Nation Address, delivered last night.

The practice, until now, has been for the debate and the President’s reply to take place only in the NA.

The debate by a joint sitting of the NA and NCOP will start this afternoon. It will continue tomorrow, Thursday, and the President will reply to the debate on Friday, 20 June.
