Minister of the Department for Women, Children and People with Disabilities, Lulu Xingwana, will host the International Day for Older persons in partnership with the correctional services department through Zonderwater Correctional Centre.
The Zonderwater Correctional Centre through the offender rehabilitation program has been working with the older persons forum of Refiloe Township in Cullinan to support the centre where the older persons forum gather daily with blankets, wheel chairs and meals.
The offender rehabilitation program has seen to fruition the renovation of homes for the elderly and also a centre for the senior citizens in the area.
An interactive dialogue, visits to homes of older persons and older persons with disabilities is part of the many activities for the day with the Minister for Women, Children and People with Disabilities to address gender based violence, housing, health and the protection of older persons as part of the International older persons focus week as declared by President Zuma under the theme “The future we want: what older persons are saying”.
