Statistics South Africa and the Statistics Council will host a three day Statistics Symposium on strengthening the South African National Statistics System. The Symposium will be opened by the Minister in the Presidency, Hon. Jeff Radebe and will host a range of speakers from South Africa and beyond who will speak on various aspects of coordinating the statistical production within a national statistics system.
Some of the topics to be covered include a discussion on the fundamental principles of official statistics, country practices in implementing the National Statistics System, demand for statistics in monitoring and evaluation, the National Development Plan (NDP) and the post 2015 development agenda.
The Statistician General, Mr Pali Lehohla and the Chair of Statistics Council Mr Ben Mphahlele invite the media to participate in a session of the Statistics Symposium, which will focus on the media and their role in official statistics. The session seeks to explore and consolidate input by media role players on how media can enhance the understanding and essence of statistics in evidence based decision making.
